"Read the F'n Manual"

It's a popular term amongst people who do tech support.

Here folks. Read this:
http://www.burtmanindustries.com/s2000/s2000_oil.jpg

Note they do not recommend synthetic oil for the first 7,500 miles.

"The factory-fill oil has special additives, so it should be left in the engine until the first oil change: 7500 miles, under 'Normal Conditions'"

[quote name='Hondassport' date='Feb 17 2005, 11:45 AM']I did not reccomend anybody do any thing I merely stated what I do and if you don't like synthetic at 1500 miles then you are really going to have a hard time with the new Corvettes which come with Mobil1 from the factory.

i did mine at about 3,000 and the oil was black, i mean really black..i was surprised and every change since then it is really black by 3,000 miles. i am trying to go 3500 miles now...ZERO oil use of any kind at anytime, go figure that, with 13,000 on the odo.

i use costco purchased chevron 10/30 wt oil and a honda filter from the dealer, they sell them sometimes 3 for $15.88 with the coupon i get in the mail. i do my own changes as it is easy and quick and neat and use rino ramps. i recycle the oil at my local kragen who takes it free of charge. i used an old wiper fluid jug/bleach bottle or two to transport the oil.

what amazes me is how dirty the oil is at 3,000 miles. you can really tell by putting some on a cloth from the dipstick the dipstick alone does not display how dirty the oil is.

I have 750 miles on my 05, I know some people do an oil change every 3k. Some do it earlier for the first time. And some say wait the full 3k to get everything worn in properly. Any comments?
opinions vary on this....
according to honda servicemen, the oil comes factory filled with additives to better break in your engine.......so they say go by the manual interval normal or servere....

but then others here like to get that oil out ASAP around 1000 mi.....

either way i probably won't go synthetic until 10K mi.

Does honda or anyone else sell the "break-in oil" that is in the engine. Reading that article, it says that the engine can use (not burn right??) a quart of oil every 1K miles, so if I am adding a quart every 1K miles and I change the oil at between 3500 and 7500 miles, its not running break-in oil anymore, its been completely changed out basically.

I know that everyone is different on what they end up doing, but if Honda could offer me an oil change with the break-in oil, I would feel much better about getting an oil change at every 1K miles just to change out the filter. I drive 1K miles every 3-4 months in my car if I am lucky, so its not a big expense and if it helps the car in later life, its money well spent.

So, where do I get more break-in oil from?

Please do yourself a favor...do a search and look up the "Oil Journal" info I mentioned to you in my previous post. "Road Rage" has compiled everything you want to know about oil, oil changes, and oil filters. NOTE: Your question about "break-in oil" is answered there. I could answer your question. But, why listen to me...why not learn the facts for yourself???

You paid a decent amount of money for this car. Why not learn everything you can about its' maintainance???
