First oil change for MY05
I have 750 miles on my 05, I know some people do an oil change every 3k. Some do it earlier for the first time. And some say wait the full 3k to get everything worn in properly. Any comments?

I changed mine out at around 700-800 miles. I don't care what the manual says, but I wanted to go synthetic and get the factory fill outta there. Lovin' every second of it!

you're suppose to wait atleast 4700 miles because of the special break in fluid. It's a mineral base that helps strengthen the metal inside and the parts to wear in properly. Some have even done the second oil change with Valvoline Max Life because it contains some of the same chemicals that help in that process. I would stick to what Honda recommends. I'd hate to change my oil early and possibly have premature block wear down the road. Also, it's recommended to wait until atleast the second oil change or 10000 miles to switch to synthetic for break in purposes.

Mine was changed at 3k mi at the dealership, but that's because they were CPO'ing the car. Since then, I got my 7500 mi service done early at 6k mi so I had a second oil change. I plan on going w/o an oil change until the light comes on steady though.

manual says 5000.. I think they put special oil from factory to help in break in period
I'm curious..."Where did you see the "5K" oil change interval in the manual???" Mine says 3750 for severe driving conditions and 7500 for normal driving conditions...
S2KHHI,
Unfortunately, you are going to receive all kinds of suggestions and advice with your post. Many with no scientific evidence to back up what they are posting. Also, please keep in mind, many owners driving conditions vary. What oil change interval may be needed for one member may not necessarily be needed for you.
My advise would be to please check out the "Technical Forum" and look at the sticky titled, "Oil Journals...everything you wanted to know about oil but were afraid to ask...". You will find very detailed oil analysis by board members- Road Rage (The oil guru of the board) and Xviper.

Where the heck are all of you pulling these figures from? 4,600, 5,000, 1,500?
Oh and don't listen to the noob that recommended changing to synthetic at 1,500 miles.

I did not reccomend anybody do any thing I merely stated what I do and if you don't like synthetic at 1500 miles then you are really going to have a hard time with the new Corvettes which come with Mobil1 from the factory.
Yoy will probably not like that I start all my new Drag 455 Pontiac motors for the first time on Mobil1 15w-50 , run them for 30 minutes and then it's down the 1/4 mile they go.
