The clunk is normal. Try clutching in, and then shift to first after 2 seconds.
Has to do with the fact that the gears were still spinning when you were in neutral, and all of a sudden jamming the gear into 1st while the wheels aren't moving. But when you clutch in, the gears slow down or stop ... then you won't have the clunk.
It's normal, no worries, you aren't hurting your car

i get the same problem. its only at a certain speed. like almost coming to a stop? where when i put it in from neutral it clunks the tranny and you feel it in the shifter. idk if its normal but now i double clutch and put it into second then first and no problem!

when starting from a start you drop the shifter into 1st and there is a small clunk sound and feeling... is this normal?
also i know this is a noob question but i have a hard time launching the car, is this due to traction control? how do you launch quickly?

As someone already said, when in neutral at a stop, the transmission is still spinning because neutral is "engaged." When you clutch in and put it in first, you are stopping the transmission, which creates that clunk. If you wait for a few seconds, the transmission comes to a stop itself and you won't get the clunk. I used to wonder about this too, but I've gotten used to it.
As for launching the car, what type of launches are you trying to do? Yes, the '04+ models are harder to launch because of a clutch delay valve that restricts how fast the clutch is engaged. I've still seen people launch AP2's with the CDV still in pretty well, but they launch them VERY HARD (redline or so).

Do you mean you have the car on and put it into gear and car hear something when you put it into gear? In my rsx (when the car is off) if you push the clutch and cahnge 1st 2nd 3rd etc you can hear a noise. Im guessing it makes the same noise when the cars on i just cant hear it over the engine.
With the top down sitting at idle, i sometimes push the clutch in and shift 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and I hear the tranny engaging (clunking noise).
I wont actually be moving, just sittle idle at the light.
I think its pretty normal, i just had my tranny fluid changed 3k miles ago and nothing has changed regarding the noise.
Its not that loud even, I just figure since our cars are so small and the gearbox is literally right there next to us, its normal to hear it working mechanically
