Step 1 - Spend way too much money on LEDs. Mount them on a board. Test.
Step 2 - Gouge out material from the OEM housing so the LED board can fit far enough away from the diffuser for the light to scatter (no hot spots).
BEFORE
AFTER
Step 3 - Mount board to modified housing
Step 4 - Cut and install white diffuser
ORIGINAL DIFFUSER
WHITE DIFFUSER
Step 5 - Cut & Place color gels for redline, gas, temp, and odometer
Step 6 - Install
Step 7 - Enjoy!
It was actually a bit overcast this morning, so I wasn't able to test visibility during direct sunlight, but I can tell you this is about 3x brighter than my EL sheet solution, and about 2x brighter than the OEM incandescent solution. I drive with my lights on during the day, and this morning, I didn't have to hold the "+" button to make the dash brighter. In fact, I hit the "-" button a few times to turn the brightness down. I even had my dark sunglasses on!
The LEDs are quite a bit more sensitive to the variable voltage of a car battery, so I notice more flickering when I put the top up & down, flash the high beams, etc. I think I need to add a capacitor to my setup to eliminate this. Any suggestions?

that is fantastic Qube. Nice job.
now the obligatory question Will you be offering a product, or sharing your knowledge so those of us less inovative can also enjoy a blue dash? even a product list and a step by step would be welcome (speaking for myself)
