Way before, I loved the car when it was still on paper I became obsessed with it by '01. I damn near bought it without a test drive !

I always liked the S, but thought that it was overpriced for some reason. I ended up finding a great deal on a new '03 so I bought it without even driving it first . Since then it has been nothing but love .

I wasn't a huge fan, and I was selling Hondas, till I found S2Ki. It was about 2 months before I bought mine.

The coffee breaks at work are great for car discussions. One of my colleagues is a Mazda-man and one day he was going on-and-on about his test drive in a MX5.
Me being a Honda fan, I had to answer : S2000!
The car is expensive overhere so i never really thought about owning one.
Later that day, at lunchbreak, we had a look online at Mazda.nl and Honda.nl to compare the two. At home I checked out the Used-car link.
Looked at the top of the list (cheapest, yeah I'm Dutch), called the dealer, made an appointment for a testdrive.
I was very impressed with the car, but even more with the salesman saying "Yes, that will be ok" to my bid for the car, as an answer to his asking price.
We didnt split the difference or nothing.
So I traded-in my Legend Coupe and bought myself an S2000.

I think they look back on it as a bad deal as they had to pay for 2 clutches, a knocksensor they busted doing the first clutch and a rear wheel bearing.

I wanted one for years based on how it looks and sounds. But a good friend (who sells Hondas but wasn't pushing) warned me that I should never drive one unless I was prepared to buy it because I was likely to fall in love.

When I finally had some money for a car, I drove it and wasn't really sure. It seemed 'nice' but I wasn't used to it and wasn't willing to push the limits in an unfamiliar car on unfamiliar roads. I had never driven a convertible and that was strange. And, my wife said its like being in a coffin and refused a test drive in either seat! I really struggled with the decision but obviously eventually went with it.

About 1/2 hour after I picked it up I knew that I would be happy with it. After a week I thought that I could love it. Now after a couple of months there is no question -- love for sure. Its the best car I ever drove and I can't wait for another excuse to drive it.

Are you sure you didn't drive a civic?
truth, dude

i think i had such a high expectation of the car that it killed all sensation when i actually drove it.. like when you go to the theatre to watch a hyped-up movie. dead steering is still a valid complaint of the car (i ran a search )... and the "less-sharp" (not dull) handling change from AP1 to AP2 is believable

Knew I had to have one when I first read they were going into production in 1999. Was put off by some of the gouging taking place at Honda dealerships when they first came out so I placated myself with a used Porsche 944 Turbo for 2 seasons while waiting for the S2000's price to drop below MSRP.

I was all set to buy a Miata (supercharged) when I finally started taking a serious look at the S2000. A year later, my car finally died and I had my S2000 a few days later.

I love driving this thing! It's like a hot knife thru butter when carving thru the left-lane hogs on my morning commute. They're just thinking about speeding up to cut me off when - too late! I'm already in front of them.

I test drove an '03 in early summer of that year and thought it was pretty decent little car. Still wasn't convinced I had to have one though so I waited to see what the expected changes for '04 brought about. While relatively minor, virtually all of the changes that were made were positives in my mind looking at the car as a daily driver (with the one exception of the steering ratio). Picked up my '04 just before Christmas that winter and was very pleased with the decision from the get go. I've owned probably 15 cars over the years and I can honestly say the S is the only one that my appreciation for has actually continued to grow over time.
