You drill a hole into the base of the knob. Tap the hole and insert a screw. When the shift knob is aligned where you want it to be you tighten the screw. This puts pressure on the shifter and prevents the knob from turning.

Buying stolen parts FTL

I hope that your shift knob permanently welds itself upside down

I can't believe you are the first person to bring this up!

OP, you bought a stolen shift knob?

Nooo I don't believe this is a stolen knob. I know the way I put it, it would seem that way, but the car was under possession of NADE which is a huge auction place, and they return cars back to stock when they get the cars... kind of like how some dealerships do that before they resell.

Are you that naive or just in denial? The car may have been under the possesion of NADE to be auctioned off but it did NOT belong to NADE. The owner was the dealer who dropped it off to be auctioned off. NADE (or any other auction house) does not return the cars to stock. It's not their cars and they don't get paid for it, so why would they? They auction off the cars the same exact way the dealer drop them off, which in many cases are trade-ins with a bunch of aftermarket parts on them. And do you think any company is going to go through the trouble of delaying a sale, accumulating more interest, and wasting time and money on car storage and labor from ordering and installing a stock shift knob? Like it makes that much difference when selling a car? Stop fooling yourself. You bought a stolen shiftknob.

A lot of stuff gets stolen off my cars at Manheim - knobs, manuals, floormats, spare keys, radio faceplates, etc. That stuff adds up quickly

I wasn't aware of that, and I would not have bought the knob if I had known it was stolen. The way he was explaining to me how he got it, sounded like it was legit so I didn't really think twice about it as I'm not aware of exactly how the auction places work. I was under the assumption they did return cars to stock so they were easier to sell, but I guess not. It sucks that they do that to your cars, I know i'd be frustrated about this issue as well.

Oh well... sounds like you didn't mean any harm. Just smack the seller for me next time you see him
