I would be careful equating a few stories read on S2ki as being more common then it really is. You are probably going to see more horror stories on here than posts saying, "reached 50k miles, so far so good!"

If you can, start putting aside some funds to take care of car repairs in case something happens. Otherwise, make sure you take care of the S with regular maintenance.

I guess I'm just ranting. I thought by buying a Honda it would bring some reliability with it. I really enjoy my S2000... it's fun, eye catching, and really a well rounded car for a single guy like myself. But I am seriously considering selling her for a car I can trust more.

Anyone want to comment? Am I freaking out for no reason?
Freaking out for no reason . Seriously though, while a number of people have had and do have issues/problems with the S, you need to look at the bigger picture. You remember the old saying about the grass always being greener? The truth is that the S is right up at the top of the heap with the most reliable sports cars made (<--- that includes many that cost much, much more money). Yes, there are non-sports cars with better reliability/track record, but for the kind of use this cars is made for and gets from many people, it is quite solid and holds up admirably well. So the real question you would have to ask yourself is, what other sports car would you buy that would be more reliable? Good luck searching...

By the way, 13k miles, so far, so good. Only had drivers window regulator fixed and spark plugs changed under warrenty.

I have the solution fix for most of the noises..

Drop the top.. and drive

I can't hear most of the noises with the top down.

Put the hardtop on and there are all sorts of noises and creaks.

is it normal that the break make that sound in the morning when you reverse?
Yes, it is normal for the brakes to make some (clicking) noise on the first reverse after sitting overnight.

I'd smake some sense into you if I was there. Snap out of it and go rape that slut. I redline it about 20 times a day and I only drive it about 30 miles a day. I auto-x it about 30-40 times a year and that includes about 8 sickening clutch dumps on R compound tires per event (I run time only in addition to the timed runs).

It's a 2000 and it's got 36,000 miles on it. I've never had a problem yet.

I'm sure the horror stories are the exception and not the rule.

Barring running at freeway speeds, especially into any kind of significant headwind (running downwind doesn't apply), I've been pleasantly surprised at how much quieter my S is with the top down than it is with the top up. Not that it's bad with the top up.

The only thing I find louder with the top up is those pesky 4-wheel drive trucks with mudder tires that are "singing" their way down the road, especially when you're in traffic heavy enough to make it difficult to get away from them.

Drive Safe,
Steve R.
