Default Fair price for new, left-over 2004

Quick question: What do y'all think is a fair price for a new, left-over 2004 S2000? After a short search on autotrader.com, they seem to be everywhere. I know I can get a current 2005 for 3% under invoice, so how much less should a 2004 be (2005's also seem to be everywhere). I am thinking that $26K seems right. I'd love to hear peoples' opinions and, especially, real-world experience. Thanks in advance.

Hard to say, since it is literally the exact same automobile. The only drawback I can see is that the bluebook will be 12 months ahead of the same '05. I got an '05 in december but would have been happy to get the same '04 because I'm going to hang on to it longer than the bluebook difference will matter. I'm sure you can get a reasonable discount but $26K seems a bit low, unless it's got some miles on it. If you can find an '04 with the right color combo, go for it, but 3% below invoice on an '05 is hard to beat, especially if you want to sell it within 5 years.

Good luck!

I'd push for 28 and settle for 28 and change.

26k is very low, 28k might be possible, I just got MY05 for 29k. There is a white 04 here in Hilton head with 200 miles I test drove, I am sure they would deal with it.

So, the consensus seems to be that $28K is reasonable?

you are not getting a new '05 for 3% below invoice, no matter what they told you.... It's too early in the model year to knock that much money off of the car...

He probably meant 3% below sticker.

Yes, and now you can say that you have other options available in the new Saturn Sky and The Solstice. Not that you'd really buy one, but S's move slow in the winter, so a dealer may actually deal with you.

I can't see a dealer letting a new '04 go for $26K. $29 plus seems to be the standard asking price. If you could get one for anything around $28,500, that would seem to be a pretty good deal. Once the weather changes I would expect these prices to start to rise a bit.
