A private seller is asking $29,500 and is unwilling to negotiate further. Do you think this is a fair price? The car is in great condition (not a scratch). I would appreciate any input to decide whether or not I should keep looking for a better price. Thanks
29,500 is what the car ZERO miles is worth just by leaving the dealership, the car loses $3k on its value when it leaves the dealership...

The pros are that it is in my home town and it's the color combo I've been looking for (red seats too).

I say hang tight on your offer. You may hear back from the seller in a few days (nobody is going to pay 35-40k; he's smoking something). Sounds like a great car, but I would gamble that nobody else would put down 29.5k.

You should have asked him to share whatever he was smoking. Must be some amazing stuff. IIRC 29K was the sticker price on mine. The S, even a GPW, isn't that rare yet. That said...

that is way high, $25k to $26k would be fair. I just bought a 08 CR with 1002 miles on it in February 2011 and paid $29600 from a dealer with warranty and it was in perfect condition. However, I completely understand if you pay his asking price as unmolested s2k's are hard to find. IMO

The only way that car is worth anywhere close to $29,500 is if it's a mint CR - which I assume it's not. Definitely don't pay over KBB value for this. I personally think closer to 25k is more reasonable.

coccy, i was in the exact position as you. i wanted gpw/red and only that combo. if you wait 1-2 months you will find something. i waited about 3 months iirc. i think i got an excellent deal at the time and i pretty much had it in the bag the day the dealer listed it. it wasn't local, i flew one way about 400 miles to get it. trust me just wait. you're paying AT LEAST 40% higher for a depreciating car. whether it has 7,000 miles or 25,000 miles, the car will run the exact same. you will lose that extra 40% when you sell the car say in five years because A. no one will car how much you bought it for and B. a car with say 50,000 miles and 60,000 miles won't have much difference in value.

tbh if i found an S when i bought mine with higher mileage, i think i should have went for that. i wanted low mileage myself, but these are hondas that are very well built. good luck with your search!

I'm with the more recent responses--the car is not worth 29,500 let alone 28,000 that you already offered. It comes down to whether or not you are willing to overpay for the car. Is the condition/color/local seller combo worth a $5000 premium to you?

I bet this guy sits on the car for at least 6 months if he doesn't move from his firm asking price, then he will realize the need to drop it a few grand.

do a quick search on autotrader and when u see that DEALERS are advertising their s2ks for less than that. Thats when u know its over priced.(think there was an a few 08 low miles for under 28k) Lately i found that people on forums have been asking wayyy higher price than its worth, some for stupid reasons like because its "tastefully modded" an intake and a oem lip with cr badges doesnt make ur car worth 3k more sorry........

Tucson? I'll offer him $25k, that might make your offer a little more attractive.
