They are designed for rollover protection, but I would check with the track you are doing your HPDE at. The reason is some tracks do not consider the factory hoops sufficient. I know in my area Watkins Glen and VIR require an actual rollbar. Maybe if you pass the "broomstick test" they will let you slide, but I would confirm all this before you go. Good luck.
Watkins Glen depends on the school hosting the event. SCDA, NASA, and Car Guys Inc all allow the S2000 to run without an aftermarket rollbar at Watkins Glen.

Even if the bars are engineered for roll-over protection, I'm pretty sure there is no published documentation from Honda saying that. That's an invitation for a lawsuit.

I'm only 5'11" but my head is pretty much even with the top of the hoops. So, Honda would have to have some kind of exemption clause for people over a certain height!

if you do a search you will i rolled my first s2000 due to freak accident. i was going about 65-70 on highway when i happened. i walked away after 3-4 flips wiht only a small scratch on my finger. the top crushed down to rollbars, the windshield held up in corners and sagged a little in middle. the seatbelts held me tight to seat after coming to stop on roof.

this is why i bought another one.

What track are you going to and with whom? S2000's stock roll hoops are ok for NASA.

This is interesting. I was considering a NASA event in my area, but gave up on the idea when I read their section in the rules regarding open top cars needing a roll cage.

Cars such as the S2000 and Boxster are exempt because of the factory roll hoops.
