Default Factory - Fill Oil

Hey gang. I'm a long time lurker on this forum and the proud new owner of a 2007 silverstone/black S2000. What a beautiful car.

I am the second owner. The previous owner traded it in with 900(!) miles in absolutely new condition.

My question. The dealer said they did an oil change when it was brought in. I am assuming it was standard Honda 10W-30.

Now I read that the original oil was a special "factory fill" oil with special additives that should have been left in for at least the first 5,000 miles.

Is this oil available for purchase someplace? If not, are there additives available that woul replicate the formulation of the original oil?

Thanks!

The oil is not available for purchase. In Europe, there is a can of Moly that you can purchase from Honda. I don't know the part number, but you could ask around in the Euro section. There's also just a can of Moly called Mr. Moly if you really want.

Read the oil journals. You engine will be fine with the oil in it now. Just drive it and don't worry about it.

Jim,

This should help:

With sage advise from our then resident tribologist, Glenn aka RoadRage, I changed out my factory break in oil at 1395 miles replacing it with a like mixture of Pennzoil 10W30 + Valvoline MaxLife Engine Protectant which had the same key additives Honda was using in its factory break in oil. At 5500 miles I changed it out for another fresh break in mix. Remember the factory advocated leaving the factory break in oil in for 7500 miles before dumping it. Then at 10000 I moved from the special break in mix to Lubrication Engineers LE8130 Monolec 10W30 synthetic and have been changing that at no more than 7500 mile intervals since. That and I always used the OEM 15400-PCX-004 oil filters which have always topped any tests I've seen of filters for our cars. I've never burnt a drop of oil with this approach either.

Bob_A, where can you buy LE8130 Monolec 10W30? I use their gear oil in my differential, but I had not heard much about their engine oil. thanks.

Thanks. I'll have to do some reading on RoadRage's posts on this oil when I have a chance. I also noticed they have some discussions at bobistheoilguy.com website about it, but I haven't had the time to read them yet.
Here's a couple of Glenn's comments on 8130:
