Extended Warranty worth it?

Extended Warranty worth it?
Hey guys and gals, I just got a 2007 Formula Red S2000 with 22k on the odometer.
This car is certified with the dealership for 12 months bumper to bumper (until 2/2012) and carries the remaining 7 year power train until 2015.
The dealership is offering the extended warranty which will get bumper to bumper till 1/2015 or 100k miles. They are asking for $1300 (no tax)
I doubt I will get 80k miles over the next three years, but I have faith that Hondas are bullet proof vehicles. I have never owned an exotic like the S2000, but do you think its worth it?

1. Hondas are not bulletproof. Especially when owners are negligent.
2. S2000s aren't exotic.
3. "Extended Warranties" aren't really warranties, but "service contracts" and they're usually not bumper to bumper.

The fact of the matter is that you are playing the odds. The warranty company has punched the numbers and figured how much they have to charge in order to come out ahead most of the time. In other words most of the time you will lose money on an extended warranty, but If you don't have the money to pay for expensive unexpected repairs then it can be worth it.

Is it worth it? Clearly
Will you make use of its worth? That's up in the air
It's all a numbers and luck game. Treat your car right, and you won't need to use it. I certainly think the $1,300 is well worth dodging a multi-thousand repair bill(s), repair(s) over time, and the peace of mind that your S is covered in time of need. I'm guessing you payed in the realm of 19-20k, same as me, and I took the dive. If nothing else, until 100K I get to drive with a little peace of mind. That alone might be worth the $1000 (it has been for me, as I haven't had to use it *knock on wood*

A lot depends on you. If you're a "car guy" then if something breaks, you scrounge up some parts and fix it. If not, you pay someone else to replace parts at OEM Honda prices + labor.
A "car guy" has a lot less risk than the "non-car guy" so the warranty is worth less to the "car guy."

Pass on the warranty.
They offered that junk to me, I said no thanks. That was in 08 with a 06 with 40K miles on it. It now has 162K and only money towards repairs was 100 dollars on a clutch master cylinder, replaced by myself.

My brother just got that crap on his certified accord... He has piece of mind but that shit is bullet proof. Wasted 1400 dollars. 7 year full coverage on anything.
He drives his car about 3000 miles a year. It's an 2006 accord 6 cylinder ex-l.
