Extended Warranty

Extended Warranty
Ok I have been searching this site for answers and I can't seem to find a definite answer to my questions. I purchased my MY03 s2k two months ago as a second owner. It currently has 6700miles on it and about to run out of the original warranty (I have a few months left). I am definitely going to purchase an extended warranty, but I want something that covers as much to bump to bump as possible. Money is a factor, I am not rich! haha. Thru my search lots of fellow s2ki members suggest hardtopguy. My question is who is the underwritter or company that hardtopguy works with and what does the warranty cover?
What companys do you guys use and what does it cover and cost? Any help is greatly appreciated.

The only good reason to buy insurance is to protect you from unforseen circumstances whose consequences you can't afford (your house burns down). It's worth the premium in that case to eliminate risk because the loss could be ruinous. The cost of rebuilding an engine, while painful, isn't going to put you in the poorhouse. Extended car warranties have so much profit (for the dealer) built into them that you're more likely to come out ahead buying lottery scratch tickets. Not to mention that the most likely cause of big money repairs (over-revving) won't be covered.
Take the $$$ you would have spent in the extended warranty and put it in a repair fund and you'll be way ahead of the game.

PS I'm not kidding about the scratch tickets. They usually have a better than 50% payout. Extended warranties are closer to 25%

I dunno I was doing the math and if a typical extended warranty is about 1500-2000 for 4yrs or 50000miles and covers the softtop, LSD, engine, tranny etc... All those items are about 1500+ each to repair/replace. While one repair is not going to put me in the poor house, a few at the same or close times will. I am not a typical insurance/ extended warranty kinda guy (I think dental and vision insurance is a big waste of money!) I want to keep this car for a while if money permits maybe 15-20+ yrs.
So after a few more searches I believe hardtopguy sells factory honda extended warranties at a discount? Is this right? and what does it cover? Again I am looking for a bump to bump extended warranty as much as possible. Thax for ur replies so far.

Some people would pay a thousand bucks for peace of mind...that's all that a warranty is. Honda offers the warranty for a reason, they make money off of them. If you feel better at night with a warranty, more power to ya.

Haha that is 2 to 1 against extended warranties. Hmm maybe extended warranties are not worth it? Again I am a anti-insurance anti extended warranty kinda guy, I usually think they are scams, but with the s2k I just didn't want to take a chance. I thought me not getting a extended warranty this time is me just being a cheap a**. But to those who replied, these things are worthless. Reading the TSB and problems others made me want to get one.

This is being discussed in the Vintage Forum. Here is my response to that thread:
It's a gamble. You are basically buying an insurance plan. They are gambling that you won't need it, and the odds are in their favor. I like to play the odds, so I won't ever purchase an extended warranty. I've purchased 5 new vehicles, kept 4 for more than 100k miles. I've never had a single repair of more than $800, and that was for a wear item that wouldn't have been covered anyway. If I had bought warranties on the 5 vehicles, I would be out $5-$8k. The way I look at it, I have $5k in the bank earning interest that will cover just about any repair that might come up.

If you are considering buying the honda warranty you can still buy the new car warranty 7 yrs 100000 mile warranty, if you are still under the 3yr 36000 mile original. and should not pay any where near $2000. You shuld probably pay around $1200 or so. With the cost of repairs on vehicles today I buy them on all my cars, It also includes roadside assistance, gas tire changes etc, rentals, and peace of mind for my wife when she is driving if she ever breaks down in her crv. Every one is entitled to their opinions I am just giving mine.
