Default extended service contract worth it?

I wonder if the S2K community could give me opinions on extended service contracts for the S2K?
I bought a new 05 S2K in July of 05.It's a faily driver, and have had no problems (15 K on the car so far). I have a 6 yr/72,000 mi contract for $1K. I've been looking through the S2K board to see if there are any signifcant problems that might warrant the contract, and don't see much. I'm leaning toward cancelling the contract. What do you guys think?

Hondas don't break. I'm going to try and not use my extended warranty at all so I can get my $ back @ the end of 7 years.

Check the terms of the contract before you cancel it. Some of them will refund the purchase cost if you never use them. (Of course, if you had the money, you could do something else with it in the meantime.) Knowing this will allow you to factor it into your decision.

That said, I didn't get one. Honda has a great reputation for building reliable cars, and I've never used any of the contracts I've had on previous cars (not Hondas). I've given up on them completely. HPH

I thought about getting one since I've owned the car. I've had quite a few Acuras and Hondas and they've been trouble free for the most part. I thought it might be a good idea for the S, but I've read almost nothing but nightmare stories about the Hondacare contract. I'm comfortable not having it... so far.

You can sell the extended warrany back if you don't want it. A lot of horror stories regarding honoring the warrantee but usually it's from modded cars.

As for the warrantee,

If you plan on modding the car = sell it.
If you plan on keeping it forever and staying stock = keep it.

The one thing the extended warrantee that is good is that it is transferrable and will look good to a potential buyer in the event you decided to sell it down the road.

no.....there's a reason that warranty is sold, it's because the company makes money on it.

Funny... got one for RX7 and S2000, and they lost big with the 7 (more than $12K in repairs), and close to breaking even so far with S2000.

Since I've always done my own work on my previous hondas/acuras, I didn't get it when I got my S. I figure if there's thing that go wrong or that need to be fixed under warrenty, I'll get em done before the standard one is up and work on it myself later on. Besides, basic maintenance isn't covered anyway, so why pay extra for something you'll never *finds some wood to knock on* use?

Makes since to listen to the man with 137k miles! Although if I remember correctly, didn you have to replace a diff or something somewhere around 100k? Maybe I'm confusing you with someoene else.

My experiance though is that they are a gamble. If you are one of the ones who needs it you'll wish you had it . . . but for the most part the majority of owners don't need them as long as you take care of your car, maintenance, etc.
