Exhaust Question

Check w/ the guys at Bulletproof. They have the Amuse single R1 that weighs about nine pounds total !!! I think I recall that they claim a HP boost of 8 to 12, but I've seen no consumer validation of the claim. In any case, that is a savings of about 43 or 44 lbs., which is amazing.
Because I don't like the look of the single, I got the dual version, which weighs in at 15 lbs., as compared to stock at about 53 pounds. They claim a HP increase for it too, but I doubt that there is any measureable difference. Hope I'm wrong tho.

I don't believe the stock exhaust has silencer pipes either. The only exhaust I've heard of with removeable/addable silencer pipes is the Tenabe.
But with regard to what they will do, adding such inserts would increase back pressure and most people would contend that back pressure is an enemy to HP. Now whether or not it is a good or bad thing on the engine, I'm thinking that the ECU could adapt to make it run without harm in either circumstance.

I just recieved an email from the original owner and he mentioned that the silencer pipes are for the Neuspeed, not the stock exhaust. I just upgraded my stereo system, so I think I'll keep the silencers in for now.

Yes, you can see the pipes inside of the tips (about 1/4" inside). It doesn't look that bad. It does cut down the sound, esp. when you are down shifting and/or slowing down.
Sorry, but my digital camera is a piece of crap (640x480 res)...and it's broken to boot! (Santa Claus).

That may explain my question.
I had the older version of the Neuspeed exhaust that had the "ring clamp" style connector at the Y pipe and the scalloped tips. Just had a new set installed after a rear end collision a few months back. This version has a "bolt on" connector assembly at the Y pipe like the one at the header.
Good news is that the annoying "rattle" from the exhaust is gone!!
The mufflers also hang much lower and so are much more noticeable, but the db level was significantly reduced. No longer seems to get the attention it once did at stop lights. The VTEC still has the same sweet deep tones thank goodness. Not at all displeased with the newer version but this does explain the reduced db's.
