Singles will always give you more power (edit: than with duals) with a 4-cyl engine. In fact, the only exhausts that make real gains are singles.

What I was responding to is "make two into one". You don't want to cut up your OEM exhaust and make some Frankenstein monster, just buy a new single exhaust. It'll be cheaper and better.
