Default excellent trip this weekend. and some pretty high MPG!

I went on a trip to Eau Claire this weekend for my cousin's wedding. It's about a 3 1/2 hour drive, at least at the speeds I was cruising at.

I just had to say how great this car was for the trip. My average speed was probably 80-85mph. At one point I was even in a group of cars going 92mph in the left lane. I cruised as high as 95mph, but no lower than 70mph, except a little slow down here and there.

I must say that the 6th gear acceleration for passing is great at highway speeds. Though it's no Z06, I had no problem gaining speed from 75mph to 90mph or so, with just a roll on of the throttle.

I also got great gas mileage, even driving at the speeds I was, and even using the air conditioner intermittently on the way back. (fiancee had me put the top up cuz she wasn't feeling good)

I'm just curious what the highest MPG anyone here has gotten on a tank of gas. On the way there, I got 321 miles (80 miles of this was city driving) on 10.714 gallons for about 30mpg. On the way back it was 316 miles (50 miles of city driving, and use of air conditioning) on 11.107 gallons for about 28.5mpg.

I must say I love this car, and this being the longest trip I have taken with it, I was most certainly NOT disappointed.

I've seen several tanks last >300 miles, but my highest mileage was 27.7 mpg. I agree with you, the car is great on long road trips .

I just put in a 6.5-hour trip from Rochester (Upstate) New York to Wallingford Vermont. My speed was in the average of 70mph because I was following a friend pulling a racecar on a trailer. There were sections where we were running at 80mph plus. (The tow vehicle is a Yukon with a performance tweaked Corvette V8!) The trip allowed me to consume one full tank almost all on expressway roads. When we stopped in Vermont I had 286 miles, the car took 9.1 gallons to give me an average of 31.4 mpg. I love this sports car!

Going to and from DC I have gotten up to 31.1 mpg, not bad huh? This is the greatest car ever made.

If you were behind the SUV most of the time you got that milage because there was less wind resistance in the space behind the truck. I once got 44 mpg in my Del Sol when we were in heavy traffic on I-95. I was 1-2 car lengths from the car in front of me the whole time (drafting). Traffic was terrible but I got great milage.

Best I've ever done is on the way back from Asheville last year (S2K Days 01). There were a group of 5 or 6 of us all travelling quite quickly under the protection of a couple of V1's. Made the trip straight through and I got 29.32 and 28.98 MPG. That was with a trunk full of stuff and a wife in the passenger seat. I agree with the comments on the technology and quality of this car - what else could give you all the pleasure of Deals Gap on one day (19.77 MPG which is my lowest ever) and then the next day pump out almost 30 MPG?!? WOW!

I have seen 26 MPG on my trips to Maryland. I guess I downshift too much. Traffic does not help either.

I just finished a 2500 mi trip on my 02 (6000 mi on the clock). My son and I drove around AZ, UT, and NV, avoiding populated areas where we could. My mileage ranged from 23mpg to 33mpg, AC on and top up much of the time, with speeds between 50 and 120mph.(eat your heart out, you Easterners. No, I had no roadside discussions with the man in blue, and the Passport wouldn't squeak at all most days.) Several fill-ups were for entirely 100mph cruising and those returned 23mpg, while a couple of fills were for 40-60mph sorties. [side note: I couldn't coax her past 140mph--passenger, skinny, AC on, top up] I know this will only be of use to Westerners, but our car will cruise comfortably and somewhat quietly at 5600rpm and 100mph, at that point just before the high-lift cam comes on. WHAT A GREAT CAR!

what kind of mileage do you guys reporting 27-30 on long trips get on a normal tank? i have yet to see better than 22mpg.... at about 3500 miles now, so i'd think the rings are pretty well seated.

Quick Reply: excellent trip this weekend. and some pretty high MPG!
