This has to be the most brainless thing I have ever done...

I was at my neighborhood church about to play in a volyball game and I grabbed my gym gloves out of my trunk instead of my knee pads. So...I grabbed my knee pads and threw in my car keys and my gym gloves. Before I realized what I did...I pushed the trunk closed. CRAP!

I knew I was screwed because my center consol is where I keep my 9mm compact...and it's always locked when I leave the car!!! My mind raced as to where I keep my spare...DOH! The valet key and the spare key with the alarm remote is in my rifle vault (safe), and my only key to the safe was on my keychain...which is in my trunk!

Soooo...what to do now? I looked up locksmith on smartpages.com for my area and I got the number to some 24 hour service "AAA Locksmith"...but he couldn't help me because all he has is a slim jim. Shesh! I figured that those guys would have some kind of skeleton key or something...my friend did in high school (car thief).

So...what would you do if you locked your keys in your trunk and didn't have access to a spare (like if you were out of town)?

I had 3 choices that I was aware of...

1. Break open my center consol...my alarm's auto arm is disabled...I had access to the cabin.
2. Try to make some skeleton keys.
3. Break into my safe.

Well...guess what...I tried 2 out of the three above...and if you know me, there is no way I'm going to hurt my baby! Opion #1 was ruled out by default.

Option # 2 was a failure...I didn't have anybody's S2000 keys to compare the cut. I made skeleton keys for a 94-97 accord...but they didn't work for the S2000.

Option # 3 took me 2 hours...the key type the safe took was one of those cylindrical shaped ones with the open end (tough to break in to). I had to use a dremel, a drill, and a big a$$ screwdriver. Thank god I only had the top deadbolt of my safe locked (the bottom one was unlocked).

Well, I came out of the situation with the loss of 3 hours of my time...and loosing the top lock to my rifle vault. Take this as a warning to put your spare keys in a accessable place.

That is all,

Sorry to hear about your situation. I did find it interesting though that as soon as I read your "9mm" part, I knew you were from Texas. The Houston, TX signature confirmed that. Also interesting that you were at church with your 9mm. I guess in Houston you need to pack heat everywhere!!

lako,

It's a HK USP Compact. I shoot better with my Glock...but I like 10 lb trigger pull for a misc. carry and throw in the car gun. I don't remember...but I don't think the mid compact Glocks fit in the S2000 consol (Glock 23)...

Sunchild posted about this a while ago, said that a locksmith played with the lock and was into his center console with no damage to that lock in a matter of seconds, if I recall correctly. Also, given that fact, that's probably not the best place to keep your gun! See this thread: http://www.s2000online.com/forums/showthre...p?threadid=3250

I proposed drilling a hole in the glovebox door where the trunk switch is and pushing it with a wire. I could then replace the glovebox door for some outrageous expense, I'm sure.

I see a new POLL coming.

Owners who carry guns in their S2k's

Tim,
Sorry to hear about your situation. At least your safe is safe from others but not you!
