ever fall back in love with your S?
heres my love story.
my 02 s2k has been a great car, flawless, powerful and Honda perferct. the only hickup my car has EVER had was the inner cv joint TSB. i had to drive on the bad joints for about a month. it was horrible, no vtec'ing, not shifts over 5k due to the vibrations that are associated with the inner joint problem. so i get them fixed. as soon as that happens some of the crappiest weather to hit WA state in awhile moves in and ruins and chances of vtec'ing on the new joints.
its been 60 days without vtec. i work for a Mits dealer and am surrounded by Evos and the gravity of my surroundings started to wear on me. i was so close to trading the S in on a Grapite Gray 9MR.
today was day 61 of the great vtec drought of 06'. i put in the typical 10 hr day at work, all the while day dreaming about what mods i was going to do to my new evo. i clocked out walked to the s2 thinkin it was going to be one of the last time i'll drive her home. but something was different on the drive home tonite. no rain. no snow. dry roads. i didnt know what to do with myself, or hell the car! so i stared the drive me. as the car warmed up i slowly pushed her harder and harder easing back into high rpm action. then it happened. an empty street, a red light and nobody around. at 6pm on a week night? what? so i figured i'd strech the s2's legs a bit.
rev it up to 7k, light green, cupids arrow in my heart. as i redlined 1,2,3,4 and then shut down i almost wanted to slap myself for even thinking of getting rid of this car. i am love again, more than ever. i offered to go get some milk when i got home, from the store across town, as we had a full gallon in the 'fridge. this car is not a car at all, its an expirence, one that i never want to get rid of.
i <3 my S2000.

Yea, I love my S so far, only had a little over a month, its just a blast to drive, she's my DD and I love hoping in and going places, the biggest thing that bugs me is not being able to carry 3 or 4 people, oh well..

7k clutch dump? You're MAD!
But yeah, I felt it too, this weekend strangely. I haven't driven the S in a month or so (been commuting in the Miata). The Miata is so much fun it's tough for others to compare. The S is fun, but it's also bone-stock.
...so my mind got to wandering, and I started thinking about how much I really wanted a car payment. The S started losing. I went home this last weekend. I drove the S. Gingerly, as I hadn't in a while. I slowly worked back into a rhythm, and was still somewhat ambivalent.
Sunday night, I drove up to Seattle and it started snowing on me. I got to Seattle, and it didn't like the ice. When I took it back home, I got to get on it a bit, and it wasn't the VTEC as such that drew me back in (maybe because it scares me to launch at 7), but rather the sound of the car. It's a really intoxicating, addictive sound and I started thinking more on "my resolve to not mod the car is slipping", and less on "the car payment money would be nice in the Miata".
They're both fun... in different ways. Funny since they're essentially the same car.

I fall in love with my car all over again whenever I have to borrow one of my parents vehicles to pick up something large. Nothing like driving a colt vista to go pick up some stuff for an hour or two (egg shaped extra large hatchback that sways like a boat) just to come back to my ultra stiff '01. Makes it feel like a purpose built race car minus rattling the teeth out of my head!
Now I'm going to have to go without for a month or two because of knee surgery. I can't wait until I get back into my S for a drive!!

I have not driven mine, at all, since last Saturday due to the weather here in the Midwest....and based upon how much snow we got yesterday coupled with the forecast for the next few days, it will be a while before the roads are clean from snow leftovers and I can take her out again.
Oh well, she is tucked away nice and clean in her bed, er, I mean her garage.
