?European, Japanese, and American s2k?

dlq04...well that was really helpful. The dealer here told me that the S2000 here was different than in the US, but I told him I didn't think so. He insisted so I posted to check. They indeed are different and do have higher taxes placed on them.

Well, if the JDM car doesn't have an immobilizer in the ECU (as dlq said), then sure... I'll bet the keys are different. But I don't know.
JDM means "Japanese Domestic Market," right? Need we say more?

For anyone who might be interested, in my research I came across a company in JP that exports used S2000s to the US (and presumably elsewhere). J's Garage .
Perhaps they're not the only folks, but it is clearly possible to bring a JDM car into the US. My understanding is that these guys buy the car privately in JP, ship it to US, go through customs and make whatever mods are needed to get NHTSA and EPA approval in the US. I have no idea what the price tag is.
Privately, I'm still considering buying a friend's JDM S and shipping it myself to the US. I'd prefer *not* to make LHD conversion, etc. I don't know if it's feasible yet. I just know I love Monte Carlo blue!

I'd like to add that there are markets with speedometer "km/h" scale where there is no possibility to switch to "MPH" scale (Europe, Asia, Australia and (maybe) Canada) whereas "MPH" scale (US and UK) can always be switched to "km/h" reading.
Some also have different tell-tales (Europe (incl. UK), Asia, Australia and Canada)
- Yellow ABS warning symbol and Red brake warning symbol, rather than just the letters ABS and the word BRAKE in the tell-tales;
- Green position lamps symbol tell-tale.
Apart from the indeed mentioned inside trunk release button (against entrapped children) and pre-2003 wheels, one of the last things to mention is the different tail lamps for both US and Canadian versions. US and Canada have so-called side marker lamps and reflectors (red) incorporated in the tail lamps, whereas other markets don't have them; in these markets there are just red plastic bits.
The Arabic oriented markets will probably have unique outside mirror "remarks" (Object is closer than it appears) in Arabic characters (obviously).
Probably all markets have their unique seat belts (and maybe even airbag modules). US and Canadian versions will say: "FMVSS xxx". Australian versions will say: "Conforms to ADR such and so standards". European versions will have something similar as "ZAer4mp E6-04xxxx" and I have no idea what the JDMs or other markets say.

Siepel

Siepel, are you sure about the unswitchable km <-> miles dashboards in some markets? That seems like a silly omission. But I'll take your word for it. Also, I really wonder why Honda wastes their time with different tail lamps... Why not just use the ones with the reflectors in all markets? (I don't expect an answer! )
