this is what interests me.

a change in the primary reduction gear has the same effect as changing the final drive gear, since the primary reduction gear multiplies power the same way the final drive gear does.

so to the original person who said the 4.76 final drive ratio.

that is a MY00-03 FD WITH the primary reduction gear factored in. (4.1 times 1.16 = 4.756)

so, in the new 04-05 S2000, the effective final drive would be 4.9528. (4.1 times 1.208)

and since this affects every gear, it essentially was the same as changing the FD.

(if memory serves me correctly, the primary reduction gear is the gear that mates the 2 halves of the drive shaft together. there are 2 halves, because without having the drive shaft built of carbon fiber or something like that, the drive shaft would be too long to be one solid piece, and could cause problems with vibrating, durability, etc.)
Yes that is why Honda did it. Honda also made the 5th and 6th gears taller. This is why a number of pre MY04 owners have swapped trannies. I have one sitting at the shop waiting to be installed.

they changed the final dif ratio from 4,1:1 to 4,76:1, thats why the new model has a better accelaration in 4th, 5th and 6th gear.

Dont believe everything Greek magazines say.
I think is the Power or the Evo magazine that has this wrong info.

Moreover, a different final drive applies to all six speeds and not just to 4th, 5th and 6th.

How does that help? Thats the specs for the USDM MY04 S2000 with the F22C engine.

The OP specifically asked for the EU Spec MY04-05 with the F20C engine in it.

If you read the link that I provided above, it has the changes made to the EU Spec S2000 for MY04. No changes to the gear ratios have been made for the EU S2000.

Nobody is disagreeing that the USDM MY04-05 S2000s have slightly different gear ratios (mostly due to the change in the Primary Gear Reduction). But thats not what was asked originally.
