Escort Solo failure!

Escort Solo failure!
I'd love some thoughts on what happened to me today.
I was driving on a 30mph road (beautiful sunny day, absolutely straight road, slightly downhill and perfect for a speed trap) doing over 40 and NOT HEARING A SOUND from my Escort. Next thing I know I'm being pulled over and given a ticket.
There have been times when the warning has come late but this is the first time it hasn't come at all.
I don't know much about radar, could this be the "pop" technology I've heard about? Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks

That sucks man! Are you sure the batteries were good? I have the 9500 and like you were before, quite satisfied with its performance. I dont recall if the solo is equipped with POP detection, but even if it was, technically they cannot give you a ticket based solely off of a POP reading....they have to nail with "conventional" radar, Lidar, etc. Could he have been pacing you from behind? All in all, sorry about the ticket

Did he say what type of radar it was? Could even have been laser which is not widely used but is is very directional and they usually target the license plate. Likely the beam would not be spread enough to reach the Solo unless it is low in the car.
Solo's do seem to suffer slight reduction in sensitivity when batteries are low. I suggest getting several sets of Eneloops they are killer batteries with phenominal charge retention when stored. Maybe if car chargers can be found, hide one in the car and swap batteries once a week or so.
Escort also sells a stealth plate mounted system(XL?) with shifter. Best for Laser and likely fabulous for all radar. But large $ and routed wiring setup.
I have owned 3 Escorts since the mid 70's or so and never had one actually fail(ie:break - I only replaced them to upgrade. My first one is still working). They have been #1 and close to it for all that time. But always there are situations where it is more difficult to get advanced warning.
Some folks swear by V1 and I suspect they are also good units.
Best bet is get a line operated Escort 9500+ unit & hardwire it to the ignition. It unplugs easily and can be moved to other cars with a lighter cord for special occasions.
Good luck.

beautiful straight downhill road + speed trap? A speed trap is a cop hiding in say an alley way where it's not exposed, and clocks people when they are unable to see them in the least bit.
Did you miss the cop infront of you, behind you, was he on the side? That's why I don't bother with radar detectors. False sense of security. I use my eyes and my ears, and by chance I get pulled over (hasn't happened in 5 years), then it's my own fault for breaking the law and I have zero room to complain.
