Default Enlighten me (please)

I have just sold my Boxster and am looking for a .... Honda S2000...!
Seems like a fun car, the Boxster was a great car but just too much $$$ invested in a car we use about 3000 miles a year..sits in the garage top down for a weekend/evening ride only
So, in looking at used S2000's sales people haven't got a clue...I am thinking to spend about $12-14000 which means I guess a 2000, 01 or maybe an 02.
What are the differences between the early and say 03/04?
Thanks for the info.

2000 and 2001 have the stiffest suspension and sway bars etc. Plastic rear window though. '02 and '03 are still the AP1's (9K rpm redline) not quite as stiff of a suspension set up or as thick sway bars etc. '04 and up are AP2's and have a lower redline with a 2.2 liter engine instead of the 2.0.
Go with an '02 so you get the glass rear window and still the 9k redline.
I have an '01 and love it, just want the glass rear window.

Or just higher mileage. Can get one in awesome condition with around 60k or so for around 13-15k depending on how long you look. I got my '01 with 69k in very nice condition with 1 owner for 13.5k from a dealership too.

As an avid S2000 lover and very proud owner of a MY00 with 182k miles on the original drivetrain.................if I had a chance to do it again I'd get an '02-03. Last of the 9k redline, glass rear window, "slightly" improved stereo, minor touches like chrome-ringer tails, silver highlights in the interior (whatever), remapped ECU, vinyl covered center console.

I've done alot more to mine to bring it to my own preferences like glass, custom interior, etc, etc, etc. But straight out of the gate the '02-03 is my favorite.

If you want the more raw feeling and 9k redline, I would probably chose the 02-03 years. Alot of the little problems from the 00-01 were fix by then. Plus, you get the glass w/defroster on the 02-03. Now if you were to look for a more comfortable daily driving but still with the simialr fun factor, go with the AP2s(04+). If you want the VSA and DBW, go with 06+. Let me note, the AP2s have a 8K redline compared to the AP1s(00-03) 9k. Just to mention as well, this is just a small break down of the more major changes within the different model years. There are little changes as well.

By the look of it from your budget, you're in the range for an AP1. I would look into trying to get an 02-03 in this case then. Hope that helps some. Good luck with your purchase.

That was what drew me to the ap2 over the ap1 for my daily.
