Engine life - can you still go FI safely after 4+ years??
Hi All,
I've got an '00 Silverstone, that just finished up the warranty period. (that window regulator problem is still unfixed, but oh well).
Now that the warranty is out of the way, I'm considerring a comptech SC. Do you have any thoughts, experiences, or recommendations on getting one when the engine will be about 4+ years old?
Danka.

First of all I think miles are probably more important than age. That being said, you're taking a risk going FI no matter when you do it. The engine wasn't designed for it and it puts a lot of extra strain on the whole drivetrain, not just the engine. So if you want to do it go for it. Just make sure you prepare for the possibility of having to do more repairs more often, and probably at higher cost than not having FI.

Thanks Strike.
1) What mileage do you think will fall into the "excessive risk" category?
2) Does anyone know how much a tougher clutch, and drive train would cost if the work is done at the same time?
3) What about the weak rear diff? (I'm not sure what that means, but I've seen it discussed here and there)
Thanks everyone
