Oh man I got to sell my car. I only have 20k before my engine blows up. I have 80,000 and vtec every day multiple times. I hit redline at least 4-5 times a week. I have a vtec controller so it tells me how high rpms I hit and I am almost always hitting 8800+. My car runs great. Not one engine problem what so ever. I am more worried about my differential than the engine.

Ok, I'm getting cocky now, but man most of these doubts about the S2000 I read come from the *enthusiast's* and not the owners.

Take a risk, if you like it buy it. If you dont, buy a mainstream car.

S2000 engines barely lasting until 100,000 miles??

I guess it's time to sell mine. It's almost at 10,000 and should be acting up soon.

 

It's good to know that people who don't even own the car are more knowledgeable about our car's "major engine issues" than we are. I guess the 80k on my car means my engine, which runs as good as when I bought the car 4 years ago, is about to go.....

P.S. - I've been around since the beginning and don't remember ever seeing a thread stating that the life expectancy of the engine is "barely 100k". I'd like the thread starter to post a link to one thread that even suggests this.

"agreed. i do not believe you should consider anything an "issue" unless it happens to a majority of the owners such as the "grinding issue" for MY01/02 cars. Few motors have blown, but I do not think it warrants the statement such as "S2000's have motor issues"

There has been well over 100 engine failures I think. There is a thread on s2ki that shows over 75 of them I think. And no....it does NOT need to be a majority to be an issue at ALL. No offence, but I do not see how you figure that one.

I think the topic is your misrepresenting data as more significant than it is. All cars have engine failures. Beyond that, we don't know how many failures are defects and how many were owner induced. The data available from this site is not statistically valid to make a generalization that this car has "major engine issues". I would argue that it's quite unbelievable how reliable this engine is considering what it's capable of and it's high redline.

I'm not going to do a search to verify your assertions. If you want to make statements such as "I have herd, on this forum, that the life expectancy is not very high on these cars, barley even 100k miles", you should be prepared to support those statements. Maybe that's why you expected to get flamed. You made statements that are questionable without having data to support them.
