Default engine building

I should probably post this somewhere else but,

One of my neighbors told me today that each S2000 engine is built by hand by one person and each builder signs it somehow....

He seems to know his stuff - I have never heard this - anyone have any insight?

There is no evidence that any of that is true.

The engine is hand assembled, but I don't remember if it's one person or a team of people. Either way, the people who build an engine build it from start to finish. I believe the book Honda S2000 states this. There are also pictures of the S2000 factory when it was in tochigi. They are all in white lab coats as the car is (mostly) hand assembled going from station to station.

edit: i dont think the engine is "signed"

Looking at those pictures...

That must be where Perfection is created.

Maybe they "sign" a car in places we cant see.
Just for themselfs.

I thought it was stated by the people that visited the assembly plant that the engines were shipped in as complete components.. the team of five simply assembled the car. I have been following the S2000 story for over seven years and do not recall any details that were revealed concerning engine assembly.

Lets look for some verification before we call any of this fact.

Yep. It's true. In fact, mine was assembled by one Yakamoto Fujimadi Hairpie. I know this because the little bastard tagged the bottom of my block with red Krylon ("No runs. No drips. No errors.")

Likewise, I had a military friend who had toured the plant while in Japan, and he had stated the opposite, that the engines are assembled by hand. However, he could not confirm that this was done at the actual factory. While they may be delivered already assembled at the factory, that doesn't mean they aren't hand assembled by a technician elsewhere. I have to pull out my Honda S2000 book and see if I can find in there where it talked about the engine's assembly at the plant.
