Sounds like we do not have all the facts. This sounds like the classic three-sided story.

Sorry for your loss.

I could totally see how you could burn up 5 qts in 6,000 miles on an old engine though... My Integra would have done that in 5,000 miles. Did you ever check to see if you were burning oil?

Not sure how this is relevent to the present discussion. He claimed to have lost the 5 qts in 150 miles. No amount of oil burning will account for this kind of loss.

Yeah, I was agreeing that it doesn't add up that he had checked the oil only 150 miles before being bone dry.

All Passports can use oil, just like some S2000's can use oil. It is a known issue with the truck.

I'd bet your truck has always used some oil, and the extended oil change intervals (over 3750) increased the consuption with more miles.

The oil will turn to sludge if not changed frequently, and cause the oil rings to stick. This further increases the oil consumption.

They can consume up to 1qt every 1K miles and be considered "normal consumption"

Most extended warranty companies will send a 3rd party inspector to verify the problem/repair. Your option is to go to bat with the warranty company. Be prepared to have all the service records.

Did you check the oil with the engine running? Oil will splash much higher on the dipstick when it's running. The Oil light will not come on untill there is no oil pressure. There can be a minuscule amount of oil in the pan and keep the light off.

I'd take this oportunity to find a non-Isuzu built vehicle.

You HAVE to find the receipt for the last oil change in order to get anywhere else in this case... be steadfast and professional but they will still try to make you pay at least half... I've seen em' do it several times.. They'll say, ok the engine is covered but we won't install it without replcing this and that.... and this and that costs $XK dollars...

get rid of it after it's fixed, and don't look at the door jam.. it'll tell you to take it up with Isuzu.

All,

Thanks for the replies. I have all the receipts for all the oil changes. The Honda warranty guy saw the receipt that I had the oil changed 6000 miles ago, but still insists that I drove without oil in the car, and they won't honor the warranty!!

The oil level was checked with the car NOT running. It had been sitting for over an hour, so that shouldn't be an issue.

The interesting point here (and the adjuster just won't believe me) is that my son heard a knocking and pinging noise BEFORE the oil light came on, then it blinked a little, then it came on and stayed on. So where could the oil have gone???

The car has been flatbedded from the Honda dealer to an independent shop where the guy is going to replace the engine. Honda wanted $4800.00 for a used engine with 90K miles on it, and $3080.00 to remove and re-install the used engine. The independent guy says this is ridiculous. I found a used engine with 60K miles on it for $2500.00 and this guy says it should be no more than $1200.00 to remove and replace the engine.

Also, he is going to do his own inspection of the current blown engine and get back to me. I won't know anything until later this week, and I'm going away Wednesday thru Sunday -- I'll fill you all in next week.

I've got receipts for everything, so I will definitely be going after Honda on this one. Especially since the Check Engine light was coming on, Honda checked it out and could not find anything and then told me to drive the car until it came on again!!

And I don't think a compression test was ever done. I also thought of that one. It should be interesting how this one turns out. It will probably take months, but I will not back down on this one. I know I am right and I am NOT trying to get away with something here.

Have a good week everyone. See ya.
