I am not a car expert. Just logical.

I can see the strain on a rod being higher at 9,000 rpm than at 1,000 rpm. The piston has to accelerate much faster, so I would expect the force, to be higher, causing more stress and strain on the rod.

Also, not all 57k engines are equal. How many piston cycles does it take to go 57k in 2nd gear, vs. 6th gear. The more time you spend in 1st and 2nd gear, rather than 5th gear, the more wear and tear your engine is going to take becuase your pistons are going to have far more cycles on them. So a person who drives in 2nd and 3rd gear exclusively, keeping the engine above 7500 RPM all the time, is going to have FAR MORE wear on his 57k engine, than a person stays in 4th and 5th gear all the time.

Again, not an expert. Just pointing out that 57k is not too early to suffer catastrophic damage under the right circumstances of use or abuse, proper maintenance not-withstanding.

The thing is, the strain is not on the bearing, it's on the oil film between the bearing shells. As long as that film does it's job, the bearing won't turn, and the kind of treatment it would take to overwhelm that oil film would tear up other parts of the car first. What happens is that the high revs actually wear the oil out faster, but the bearings aren't really affected.

Most bearing wear actually takes place during a cold start before a good supply of oil ever reaches the main bearings. During that time the oil film is made up only of the oil that hasn't drained out of the bearings, so the chance of metal to metal contact (and the associated wear) goes up.

You will do FAR more harm to this car by taking many short trips than you will by driving it hard.
