Default To end a debate about towing with your s2k

I put on a hitch on my s2k to use to tow a jetski. Went down the shore with it with no problem. In fact I couldn't believe how good the car towed. It was like it wasn't towing anything. If I didn't see it in my rearview I would have forgotten all about it. No handling problems either. I towed a jetski with my old car(ford escort) and it would take a while to get up to speed and would have to brake way ahead of time, not with the s2k, it accelerated and braked easily. I also towed with a mustang and this wasn't nearly as good as the s2k. So lets finally end this debate if the s2k can tow a jetski. I had no problem at the launch too, which is what I was most concerned about.
Also if you guys think that the S2K turns heads, add a sweet jetski to the back of it, especially one that matches the cars color and you have a TRUE HEAD TURNER. I have a black s2k and a black/grey/silver ski. The black matches the car and the grey matches the rims...perfect match. Once I get a scanner I'll post pics of it.
The hitch was a pain in the ass to put on, took a few hours with help from some friends. Also broke some clips when taking apart the interior, no big deal. When I'm not towing with it I take the receiver out and no one can even notice the hitch is there. It's a very good designed hitch.
I must admit it was a scary sight to see your 2 month old s2k without its rear bumper and its interior panels taken out. But it was well worth it.

What all had to be done to install the hitch??? Where did you get the hitch? I would love to see pictures, because my "Daily Grind" is unable to pull anything.

Your car and your choice.

I would be worried, however, that Honda could void your warranty since it specifically says not to do so in the manual.

What was it like launching the ski?

I would not do it if it is still under warranty. I suspect if you have any driveline problems Honda will point at the hitch and say they are not responsible. I have spent much of my life towing. The Honda no doubt has the power. I would be concerned about the attach points from the hitch to the car. The limiting facter on most tow ratings is the strength of the sub structure the hitch is bolted to. That is why modern cars with unibody designs have very low tow ratings compared cars from 25 years ago with less power. The older cars had full frames to bolt the hitch directly to. New cars don't have good options for hitch attach points. A jet ski is light with very little windage. I suspect you will not have problems but I would never consider towing much more. Your towed load is probably around 1000 lbs. 700 for the ski if it is a 3 seater and 300 for the trailer and gas in the ski. The gross vehicle load rating on the Honda is about 3300 lbs. You will be about 4300 with 2 people in the car or well over the 0 tow rating and vehicle max gross load. I don't think it would be unreasonable for Honda to void your warranty with that kind of overload. Just curious how you handled the trailor lights. Did you install a heavy duty flasher and wiring or just tap into the stock system on the S2K?

I need to see a picture now!

One thing I swore I would not do though, is put on a hitch.
I know too many people with trucks or SUVs.

But kudos to you ...
