Default ECU report!?

I am new to Honda cars and in the market for a S2000. A friend mind who owns several Hondas told me that the dealers have devices that can read ECU data and check whether the engine had been over-reved or abused before. Is there such things?
I currently own an 89 MR2 supercharged and have very little idea of how new car ECU works.

If they can, I would think only on the 06 and up.

I have never heard of them doing it on any car other than the RSX, but would assume any ECU for a K2x would do it as well.

Over-revving? I know you're new to Hondas but this car is made to rev high. You don't want to redline ever day but why do you think there is a 9000-rpm tach?

What the hell are you talking about?

1. I do want to redline my car everyday.

2. Even if the tach went up to 15,000 rpm, you could still over-rev the engine by selecting the wrong gear. Look up: mechanical over-rev.
