Default ebay purchase protection scam.

So I've been looking to buy an s2000. I found one that was unbelievably cheap on craigslist. It was an MY04 32k miles, for $7800. I thought I was getting a steal. I got an email from the seller, and when I read it; it seemed kind of awkward and suspicious.
Here's the email.

Hello ,

I am glad you contacted me, the car is still available. It's in
excellent condition in and out with only 31,200 miles. The car
belonged to my late husband, who rarely drove it because he used the
company's car most of the time. I didn't want to sell the car at
first, but since i don't have a drivers license and my kid is too
young to drive it, i realised it's almost useless to me. My husband
and I hoped till the very last moment that his disease will go away so
we spent all of our money on expensive doctors and treatments. I had
to sell the house so i can pay my debts and i moved at my parents
house. The price is $7,800 and it's final. We will use eBay`s
protection program for our safety. I will start a case with eBay with
no further obligation or fees from you.
Here is how it will work:
1.First of all I will need the following details from you:
- Full Name
- Full Shipping Address
2. After I will receive the details from you, I will forward them to eBay.
3. After they will process your info, they will send us both invoices.
4. eBay will contact me and I will release the shipping of the car to
you. After you receive the car you will have 5 days to test, verify
and do whatever you need to the car . If you will buy, then I will
receive the payment from eBay so that I can pick up the money.
5. If you will decide that you will not buy the car , eBay will
refund the money 100% and I will have the shipping company come pick
up my car and you will not pay nothing for it .
Please get back to me asap if you decide to buy, and include in your
e-mail your full name and address where you want it shipped so I can
start the deal with eBay. You will receive all the transaction payment
and shipping details from them.

Thank you

So I did some research and found that many have been scammed this way. What they do is make you submit a payment, it gets held in an account by ebay and then the car gets sent to you.

However what these scammers do is make you pay, they then send you a fake email from "ebay" saying that they got the payment and it will be held for you. Then you never hear from them again. Just thought I should warn you guys, for those who haven't heard of this yet.

Oh and as for the car, they steal another person's car pictures and VIN. And post it for sale. So when you carfax it, it checks out. So just beware guys!

Wow that's quite a scam.

Thanks for the heads up.

These scams are getting much more sophisticated. The simple days of the ex- nigerian prince with $28M to share are long gone.

So sad.

Wow! You and I were looking at the same exact car! Minneapolis area. I sent an email to the person and received the same response. I knew something had to be wrong. Usually if it's too good to be true, it is.

What is "(extra urban) 35.3mpg"? What the hell does "extra urban" mean?

yeah this shit has been around for many years. they send many fake e-mails "from an ebay representative", but if you forward those e-mails to ebay fraud, they will definitely alert you that they are "spoof" e-mails.

I went through the exact same thing before buying an ap1, but it wasnt some crazy steal of a price, it was average.
