Default Early AP1 Hardtop hardware

I was checking out hardtopguy's site and the hardware is like $200 more for AP1s with a VIN under 5730. Does anyone know what the difference is between the kits. My car falls in this range and I'm looking for a HT, but Im not paying $800 for hardware if I can use something else.

Also, could I use the OEM hardware to fit a VIS top?

yes you can and the OEM hardware is the best way to fit replica ht's.

The older AP1's (00-01) do not come with a defroster because of the plastic back window. The hardtop does have a defroster. The kit is $200 more because it includes the defrost button and it's wiring.

Actually the early vin AP1 needed to have the center console and rear panels replaced in addition to the wiring. The coin holder was mounted with a plastic weld and not removable. Same thing
on the side panel bushes. To so install the top in the early vin Cars you had to replace these parts too. That is where the extra cash went

If you dont care for the defroster you can get any...the mounting hardware is all the same...

you may want to upgrade the strickers tho for a tight fitting HT tho... May rattle a bit with old worn strickers...
