Default Dying Soft top?

Im been thinking of dying my softop to burgundy but with the soft top in perfect condition i don't see any reason for me to go folk out 900aud to fit a new soft top. Just wondering has anyone ever tried doing this. If im not wrong the soft top is vinyl so it should be relatively easy to dye? If i got something like this would it be possible? I figured if its possible and the burgandy top doesnt complement berlina black and full red interior i could always dye it back black. Any insight will be appreciated.

Cheers

I think you could dye it if it were canvas, but don't believe vinyl will take the color. Could be wrong though...

Well im sure someone would have applied it on vinyl surface similar to out tops.
I been seeing too much of the new NC miata (mx-5 here in australia) with the brown/burgandy and the 370z convertible with the colored roof and i think it would make the s2k a bit more classier lol.

I would get a few pieces of some S2000 top material and try using some dye to see how it takes and looks. If it works and looks good then go for it

Do you mind telling me the process? It should be similar in terms of application. Mines not oem so i think its a denim top not the vinyls one on closer inspection.

You need a prep spray (for dye) which you spray and scrub into the top. tape off all parts of the car and glass. You can actually go to NAPA and get them to mix any dye color you want into a areosol can. apply it like spray paint. let it dry and layer it. go slow and youll be good to go.
