Dunlop SP-9000 - best tyres?
After a very scarey incident in the wet with the OEM SO-2's, I have had the Dunlop SP-9000's recommended.....
Does anyone have any comments on them?

tokyo_james,
Dunlop SP 9000's are good. You will loose performance, but you will gain longer tread life and better wet weather driving characteristics.
The problem with S02's is that the water channels are at a minimal (for better dry land performance). And because the tread wears pretty fast, you are driving with more shallow tread depth in 5,000 than you would with the SP9000 at 5,000 miles.
I recommend 205/50/16 and 245/45/16 SP9000 for the stock wheels.

like Phantom stated - great in the rain, but not as great in handling in the dry. I'd compare these very close to the SP8000's which I've had many sets on other cars, and similar characteristics of the Yoko AVS's - i.e. - they talk to you while they are breaking instead of grip grip grip... and then you are let go like the OEM S02's.

Sounds like these could be a good idea as I feel a little unsure of driving the car in the rain after the last incident (assuming anyway that the insurance co. decide to repair it and not just write it off...!)

ricosuave,
What size did you go with on the new rear S03s? I put a new pair of 02s, stock size, (225/50-16), but Porsche OE--and my handling took a definite turn for the worse.

I had 215 45 17 Dunlop SP9000s on my Acura Legend 6 speed coupe. Best tire I ever ran on that car. Quiet, smooth, incredibly grippy and terrific in the wet.

All sorts of tyres are available in Japan, the prices aren't expensive as well. In fact, you can get a super dry high grip tyre and head home to swap a super wet high grip tyre in a matter of time. Only problem in Japan is if you live near the city regions, you won't have much space. Even a small garage just enough to fit the car is considerably luxurious anywhere.
