Default Drove an AP1 again... reactions from AP2 owner

I have a 2006 AP2 and I've put countless time behind the wheel and in the canyons. My friend recently replaced his radiator on his 2000 S2K and asked me to drive it to compare the feel to my car. Anyway I drove an AP2 back in the day before I purchased MY06 but didnt really remember the feel. After driving his car it felt much lighter and smoother over all. I hate to admit it but I liked the feel of the AP1 tranny and gearing over the AP2. It just felt over all lighter and smoother. Dunno maybe its the lighter flywheel and the higher RPM but it definately felt a bit more agile then my AP2. Still love my AP2 however my crave for an older molder S2K just got bigger. anyway just wanted to provide some impressions and stir up some trouble =P

I drove an AP2 for about an hour through canyon roads about a year ago and I recently purchased an AP1.

The only thing I can really remember is that the AP2 shifter was less notchy so I was more inclined to row through the gears. I just remember it being more smoother and enjoyable. Then again it wasn't my car so I was probably intentionally more active with the shifting and forcing the shifter into gear more.

It sounds like you like the lighter flywheel. The AP1 tranny is actually not as smooth itself. Also, the AP2's gearing is actually "better" -- in the sense that the effective gearing is shorter and more useable with the shorter secondary gearing for daily driving. The AP1's gearing is too tall.

I suppose it's also the AP1's higher redline that makes life a bit easier sometimes (i.e. you have another 900rpm in the VTEC range).

Maybe it's a personal thing, I actually prefer the AP2 tranny (mechanically ... ie. with the stronger synchros) and the AP2 gearing on the AP1 engine. I've been thinking of getting the AP2 tranny for my F20c for a while

Agreed!

If my tranny ever goes out, an AP2 is going in there.

I drove my friends 04 and the tranny did feel better.

AP2 tranny, with F20C and my 4.57's = niiiiice

Tranny and body styling the AP2 wins.

AP2 tranny on an AP1 is pure sex! I don't like the notchiness of the ap1 tranny. I just changed the tranny fluid thinking it would help but no. Looking forward to drive an ap2. I think I would like the low end 'torque'.
