Driving home at 3 am
every once in awhile, someone will approach on the road and try to "race." usually, what ensues is often dangerous and savage, imo, as young drivers with something to prove are never a good thing.
tonight, a Jetta pulled up to me, looked over and revved. he pulled ahead for a bit as i do not enjoy racing on public roads. did not cut me off or make any sudden movements. slowly, he lifted and dropped back next to me. most would think he wanted to challenge me, but instead, he politely smiled. i downshifted, revved to red, pulled ahead and then dropped back to meet him. never did either car's maneuvers obstruct the other's. most people probably think this story sucks, but it was a genuine pleasure.
i have a strong distaste for rude and wreckless "racing" that i often encounter. my ride home tonight was like a silent, yet choreographed dance of 2 cars on a twisty road.
as i signalled to go home, he slowed down next to me and said "thanks." the civility, consideration, excitement and safety of it leaves me stunned.
thnx for reading.

That's good to hear
I feel the same way as you - it is more fun to "play around" instead of trying to see who has the biggest _____.
I'm sure this will start someone up, but there are too many people who think it is all about how fast a car will go, but that is not the only thing behind the mechanics involved in building your car. Some cars are just for A to B, some are all about luxury, some are for acceleration in a straight line, and some are for handling. The car-world would be a better place if folks appreciated their cars for what they were meant to excel at.........okay I'm done ranting.
