The last couple of days it has been in the 40's and 50's and I have noticed a very audible whine eminating from the drive train in the morning when I first leave the house. The pitch of the whine increases with forward velocity and is independant of engine RPM or gear (even when I am out of gear for that matter). After about 3 miles, the volume of the whine diminishes to the level I am used to hearing since I bought the car 1000 miles ago. That is to say, you can't hear it unless you are listening for it. Has anyone else noticed this in their own cars. Is it something to worry about or is it a normal mechanical sound that seems to be amplified when the drive line is cold? Thanks in advance for the help.

I dont mean to make you nervous but this is the same whine I had 2 weeks before my diff. failed. They whining is very light at first..but over time it will get louder. IF thats the case with your car...take it in.

The whine sound from the diff can be sounds of failure. Also try this ... go in a empty lot and make a full tight turn in both directions and try to hear clunking noises from the diff... if u hear something then definately something is wrong.
Goodluck.
