Wait why double clutch going up a gear? I thought the whole point of double clutching was to get the engine and transmission all moving at the same speed? Don't get why you would do it on an up shift??

the gears are apart from 3rd to 2nd like most sporty cars. It was the same in my E36 M3

Correct, for the most part. It is actually the input shaft and final drive that you are trying to sync. Engine and transmission can be matched up with just a throttle blip, sans the double-clutch. On upshifts everything meshes because the input shaft is slowing down on it's own, matching the lower speed required for the higher gear you are going in to. Double-clutch with throttle on downshifts spins the input shaft up, matching the higher speed required by a lower gear, getting both ends of the transmission spooled up to similar RPMs. Yes, the synchros do the same thing. Double-clutching reduces the effort/drag of the shift and reduces (insignificant?) wear on the synchros.

2nd gear, at least in AP2's, is relatively short, hence having to bring RPM's a little higher to engage it smoothly on downshifts.

try it man! im serious.

put it in neutral, rev it up to 2-3k, then shift it in. it goes in so much smoother. i tried just blipping the throttle, but it doesnt work as good.

then again, if i rip it into gear, it'll go in smooth..i think the input shaft speed drops too much cuz i granny it.

I rev it up as i let off the clutch the first time, then clutch back down, keep throttle up, and then let off clutch...

It gives me wayyyy better shifts.

btw, this is the only car i actually ever had to dc for. i do double clutch downs too if im driving slow..if im having fun, i fkkin rip it.
