Some may remember that I posted up that my car was broken into about 2 weeks ago. yesterday after washing the car I noticed that there were several "points" on the outside of the passenger side door, clearly looking as if some screws were overtightened and starting to protrude through the metal in the door. It's hard to capture in a picture, but I am wondering if the shop that replaced the window is at fault here. I'm not sure they are...I would imagine over tightening any of the screws on the window would have caused the glass to shatter. The three protrusions are located on the lower left side of the passenger door if you are standing outside looking at dead on. They are very well aligned in a horizontal line, maybe about 2" apart.

Any thoughts? I'm thinking this is going to be a battle with the shop I hate having un-necessary body work done to the car too.

Try for a picture to give an idea of where they are exactly. This will help those who know what the inside of the door looks like off the top of their heads.

That's somewhat strange. There are really no screws/bolts that will go far enough in that will touch the door skin. That said, maybe they used some really long screws/bolts? That's really weird.

From the factory, one of my door skins seems to have an imperfection. There is actually a small crease near the door handle area for some reason. Too bad I didn't notice that when I brought the car home, although if I did challenge it, I don't see how they could see it was my fault. No accident would cause that type of crease.

I tried my best to capture the damage....I circled the offensive areas, you kind of have to see it in reflection. There are actually 3 of them, which is most clearly shown in the last pic.

Also, it's definitely noticeable in person, or if you touch it. It's one of those things that you see in the right light conditions.

That's definitely out of the ordinary. Usually body shops are equipped to handle things like this. They do thousands of cars, it's not a big issue for one of them to have a problem after they're done.

I would be polite and call them up to explain the situation. They will most likely have you come down to inspect it. That obviously wasn't there before, so they should repair it for you. I wouldn't be too worried about them doing "extra" body work. Good body shops are meant to return the car to new (or better than new) condition.

Update--I just got back from the window shop. I was real nice, and the owner took the door panel off to inspect if there was a chance they caused it. There is no way the shop did this damage. There are no screws near that area that they could have driven in too hard. In addition, there is a steel beam over that area...so my guess is that this is a mfg defect that I didn't previously notice. They are definitely sticking out, so I see no way that this is a "door ding." Looks like some kind of welding defect. I will be contacting Honda America to talk to their customer service folks. I purchased the car second hand about a year ago.....

This could get interesting!
