Does this sound fair enough
Well I was in accident like 4-5 months ago and the whole rear wheel was yanked off!.... So I towed my car to this mechanic that I have known for quite awhile and its been sitting there for like 2 months or so. Last week I finally got all the parts mainly used.... basically the whole rear left suspension. The mechanic told me he will replace everything for $400, basically replacing the whole rear suspension. That sounds too much... I mean I went to this other body shop guy that I know and showed him the picture below, he told me he'll do it for $80. I'm confused, is the mechanic ripping me off or what. Also I cant keep towing the car because it keeps getting damaged. Picture is below. Thanks

im sure priceing depends on if the rear hub assembly is already put together(ie:bearing to hub, rotors, calipers, etc.)
if it is, bolting it up is relatively easy.
when that happened to my car(after letting a friend drive the car), it took me an hour bolting everything up and making sure its up to spec.

well id say it would take 3-5 hours of labor and maybe hes charging you 100 bucks a hour, equaling 400 dollars
80 bucks total from the other guy is what id be worried about.
thats working 20 bucks a hour and thats dirt cheap for a mechanic.
also the 80 buck guy may tell you 80 bucks from what he can visually see in the picture, but upon "further visual inspection" the price will go up.

I'd be more worried about why he's only charging $80. lol

I'd say go with the $80 guy: you'll either get a great deal or some priceless experience. As in, "When someone with experience meets someone with money, the usual outcome is that the person with experience gains money and the person with money gains experience." ;-)

well the $80 guy is not a mechanic...he does body work maybe he knows about mechanical stuff too. My brother does car business and he takes his cars to this 80 guy and he fixe/paint's them. But its too late now the $400 guy is already working on it. I still think its too much.... The thing is I have already towed the car twice and if i wanted the 80 guy to work on the car i would have to tow the car to his place and damage it even more....because you have to drag the car to get it on the tow truck.
