If you have the luxury to afford it, why not? Like you said, it's a buyer's market.

The only thing that I would add is that it seems like some of you are saying that the S2000 is great for a recession because it is not too expensive, but if you are really worried about what other people migh think, you might want to consider that many of them will have no idea how affordable they can be. Look at how many people think that they are BMWs.

This wasent about buying the s2k this was about not buying a cayman S and whether or not the s2k would be a great recession car.
But i think in general he was stating how we should or should not alter our buying choices?

I think a car that is reliable/fun/economical/holds value/people want/somewhat prestigous/rare/ and will be a classic to boot is the way to go

I certainly plan to keep the cars I have for as long as possible. I will not be "upgrading" from the S2000. If I ever replace the S2000 with another car it will likely be a practical 4-door saloon.

I had a nice discussion via PMs with another member.

It's not out of "fear," but out of deference.

The analogy is more like this:
If you're a girl who works out and has nice legs, you've "earned them." Does that mean you should wear a red miniskirt to a funeral?

That's more along the lines of what we're talking about. It's not that we shouldn't enjoy what we "earned." But I don't think considering the feelings of others is without merit.

The more I think about it, the more I think the girl in a miniskirt at a funeral is the analogy I'm going for.

S2000 = form-fitting black dress at a funeral
Yellow 911 Turbo in a recession = red miniskirt at a funeral...

Sure you could, but is it appropriate?

For sure, different people have different ideas about what is appropriate in different settings.
