Does anyone use a laser jammer?
I've seen one too many cops lately using laser, so I'm considering adding a laser jammer to augment my V1.
According to Speedzones.com, the BEL and Escort worked pretty well. Does anyone have any real world results?
Is there even a place to mount one in the S?
thanks.

I have a Passport SRX installed in my S2K. It includes the laser shifting feature. I have had several Passport portables in other cars and understand the radar detection game. But in the past 4 months I have sensed and jammed laser 5-6 times. 3 were visually confirmed sightings of a police laser set up. I can say that it worked very well, I was well over the speed limit 2 of those 3 times, the laser shifting automatically engaged, I slowed down to a reasonable speed, double tapped the mute button (disables laser shifting for 60 seconds so that the cops do not suspect the shifting), roll by the set up, a minute later shifting goes active again, and I am outta there.
The SRX is a hardwire installation, and you may not want this, but the laser shifting feature seems to work very well.

Aren't Radar/Laser detectors illegal?
It's a pretty stiff fine if you're caught with one here. And we're told (whether it's true or not) that police can tell when their radars and lasers are being fooled, even if they cannot tell the true speed of the vehicle.

I dont know about australia, but here in the US there are only a couple of states in which DETECTORS are illegal (DC and Virginia I believe; maybe one more state). Radar JAMMERS are illegal in all states. Laser JAMMERS I do not believe have been made illegal yet because laser is still considered a new technology.

Laser Jammers are being outlawed in many states however most police officers for now are not aware they are many out there. The new laser guns do tell the officer he is being jammed so as more of the newer models get on the streets you will see more fines. Most states laws on jamming read that Jamming of speed detection devices are illegal and that would cover laser. California has such a law and I have a friend who received a ticket recently along with an estimated speed ticket.

I'm all for fooling cops when it comes to detecting / defeating them whey they are trying to clock our speeds. But I would not buy any thing that claims to "scramble" or otherwise "jam" their instruments (such as the Phazer and Phantom made by Rockey Mountain Radars) unless I can prove they work. IE: getting an actual police radar and laser units and make some test runs against those units with the scrambling equipment.
If you can't perform those tests, then you will have a false sense of security, and never know if you paid money for garbage.
For me, I use V1 and play the cop's cat-n-mouse game by being alert of potential spots for traps and paying attention to the V1.

I was pretty sure that laser jammers are illegal in CA... I didn't know they could be detected?

I have the Laser Echo by Lidatek... Recommended by an apparent officer unsolicitedly.
I can tell you it successfully triggers a laser detector over 100' away.
The major benefit, tempting fate, is that I haven't been "clocked" by laser in the S--heh..
Still waiting for that actual jamming moment (year and a half now, Interstate driving regularly).
It's an overbuilt product, hardwired through firewall: $350ish.
Randy
PS: Laser jammers are legal in all 50 states (as they put it, there's no law restricting the emmission of light!) In Canada, ANY device designed to inhibit speed detection is illegal.
PPS: Connecticut made radar detectors legal and raised the fines years ago! How's that for a blatant admission of revenue collection!?!!

Randy,
100'?! I would think even standard radar would snag you at 100'!!! LIDAR is going to get you from 1000' or better, so if this thing trips the gun at 100', it's doing you no good. Sounds like it needs to be stronger...

I'm not referring to the Phazer and the rest of the passive scramblers. They've been proven to not work.
Others,, however, like the Bel and Escort DO work. See:
www.speedzones.com
Here in Mass, they're still legal. But before I shell out $300, I want to make sure there is some real-world success to back up the testing.
I'd also like to know how well the jammers can be installed in the S.
