It's essential to "take-it-easy" until the engine warms up, but I never idle with the intention of warming the engine.

warming up your s2000 is just a waste of your gas and time. the most important thing to remember is to just drive it easily (under 4k rpm or so) until the car is fully warmed up. starting the car and driving off conservatively is your best bet...save gas, save time and reduce carbon buildup in the engine since the motor runs really rich at warm up idle speeds.

 

I always take it easy for the first lap or so. By the time I get back to the pit entrance I'm usually up to full speed.

turn engine on, keep under half-throttle/4000rpm for about 2 miles, then it's game.

 

Just got my S2K a few weeks ago...
I've been warming up the car because awhile back I had a friend that would warm-up his '87 RX-7... just in-case, because he wanted to take care of his engine (which blew an apex seal when going to school -- not at any event) -- so I am glad to see this thread. It doesn't say it in the MY06 manual, at least not under "Fuel Economy".

I am kinda happy about the thorough nature of the manual otherwise, however (thorough for a newb, maybe ).
