And I have my front plate on... still trying to decide if I want to take it off or not (it is required in OH).

everybody... it's also required that we drive below the speed limit, use our turn signals, stop for three seconds at stop signs (and before the stop sign, not past it)...
but im pretty sure a cop's not going to pull you over, drive past you, and u-turn so that the two cars are nose-to-nose, then proceed to take your license plate number...
i guess the only legitimate reason for having a front plate is this:
you're coming up on a tight corner at relatively high speeds. you misjudge the corner and are approaching faster than you should be, so you miss your apex, run wide and into the lanes of opposing traffic. there's a car coming so you hit the brakes and come to stop mere inches from the bumper of the other car (remember, you ran wide into the lanes of oncoming traffic). and then, it turns out that said car is a state trooper.
only then would you need a front plate - you'd be nose to nose

We're fortunate--no front plates in NM. I think it's because it would cost the state too much, cheap bastids! But I'm glad we don't have the front plates.

Illinois requires a front plate, but in the Chicago area about 1/4 of the cars don't have one anyway. I haven't had one on my S from day one, and haven't had one on my Integra for 5 years. I've gotten one ticket for no front plate in all of that time and it was for $25. Well worth it for looks, and for eliminating the best reflective surface for laser/radar.
