Default Do I have a factory alarm?

Hey all,

I bought a 2004 S2K used a couple weeks ago. I assumed that it only had the remote keyless entry, but a buddy of mine who also has an S2K claims that the AP2s have a standard alarm.

As evidence, he claimed that if I could click my lock button twice, and after the 2nd click, the horn honked, then I have the factory alarm. I know that on the AP1s the alarm is under the driver side seat. I couldn't see anything, although I didn't remove my seats to check.

Does anyone know how I could test for this? I tried locking the "alarm" then opening the door with the key. My buddy claimed that the factory alarm could sense the chip in the key, and that's why it didn't go off.

Thanks

As far as I know no model year s2000 has factory installed OEM alarm standard. Your friend may be confusing the fact that on the AP2's the LED indicator for the OEM alarm is integrated into the instrument cluster. On the AP1's when the OEM alarm is installed an LED must be installed as well. As for the horn beep on the second press of remote button that is normal for all model years. I think it is just to confirm that the car is in fact locked. I have an 03 with no alarm and it also gives a confirmation beep. I do not know where the OEM alarm would be installed in an 04. There is no "chip sensor" in the door, That is imobilizer only stuff. Is your friend pulling your leg? This site might be a better source of info. Good Luck

You know, I completely forgot about the LED in the dash. It doesn't blink when the car off and locked, so I guess that answers that.

Thanks
