Hey George, did you buy the Ti one? If you don't like it, we can trade. I have the OEM Ti. shift knob...

George, etal with large hands: May I suggest the "tea-sippers" grip. Lightly grasp the knob with your thumb and index finger. Clutch in, shift, clutch out, accelerate; clutch in, shift, clutch out, accelerate, etc.

I just installed mine (pearl finish) last night, so my experience with it thus far is limited (drove home, then drove to work this morning). There are a couple of things I like, and like George a couple of things I'm not 100% comfortable with.
The feel in terms of shifter action is great--I love the short throws! But I do notice my shifting precision is off in that I'm more likely to mis-shift until I get used to it. I think I'll be conservative for a little while until I feel like I'm stirring through the gears naturally again.
For some reason it feels like I'm "reaching" more to make shifts. I don't know how that can be, cuz the extreme forward throws (1st, 3rd, 5th) should be closer than they were...
I am more conscious of my forearm hitting the stuff on the console (hazard button, softtop switch), and when there is anything in the cup holder now it is really, REALLY in the way now.
The looks? It seems kinda bright and shiny for the other trim in the car. It doesn't look bad, but I don't think it improves the look of the interior. I think the multiple powder coat layers do make the knob feel more warm. Since I didn't get it engraved (yet?), I'll have to emphasize the shift pattern to any friends that drive the car.
I don't know, jury is still out! I think after a week or so I'll switch back to the stocker and see how that feels in comparison.

pfb,
I love the DRZ so far, it's fun and fast, but still easy to ride. Has a lot more grunt than the XR400 I rode, and the electric start is great. Only problem so far is that it was too heavy and soft on the moto-x track, prompting the purchase of my YZ. Unfortunately, the YZ's engine is too explosive for tight trails and low speed riding, so I can't settle on either as an only dirt bike. I may try my first hare scramble race this weekend on the DRZ - s/b fun!

'98 YZ400F with heavy a$$ flywheel here, takes the edge off.
Chris you try a flywheel on that 426 beast yet?
Contrary to popular belief, starting has not been a problem if you do it right.

My only hesitation is to see what electric-start, water-cooled, 400cc trail bike replacement Honda comes up with in the next year or so.
