Default Differential Sounds

Hello everyone. Well, after lots of searching on this board, i decided to just write a post of my own. My S2k has been making "noise" for some time now. I was just wondering if this noise was normal. Basically, when coming to a stop, it would make a high pitched whining sound. This only happens when coming to a stop. Im hoping its normal and not my differential.

Also, how do you know if your differential is blown? Are there any symptoms?
Thanks a lot all!

First of all, if you think something isn't right then bring it into Honda ASAP and have them check it out. Rear end problem symptoms are a whining sound which usually indicates excessive wear or a "back lash" clunk when lifting your foot off the accelerator. Cars with a limited slip differential may have this problem more often than standard differential types. 'Excess' spirited driving could be the cause. Bring it in to get it checked out. If you wait, you could be walking.

Thanks everyone. Drove with the top down today, and no sounds can be heard. I guess its only when i drive with the top up i can hear an electrical sounding whine when coming to a stop. I tried the lifiting my foot off the accelerator technique, and no sounds. Hopefully its nothing. THanks again

could just be the tranny winding down.

How long has it been since you replaced your diff fluid? That may also be something to look into. The labor is fairly easy, and the fluid will cost you no more than $10 if you really buy expensive stuff!

I think its probably just the tranny whining down. After reading countless articles about blown differentials, i guess i just got scared. So scared that i actually just changed my differential oil at a little over 30,000 miles. Piece of cake for the diy oil change. THanks again everyone.
