you shouldn't be doing 5 oil changes in 15k miles. only about 3 oil changes.....

 

I changed my diff. fluid last weekend and the car seems to be smoother overall. I dont know how to really explain it but after my diff. change their were less noises and the it was smooth. ONe question, is there a reason the top washer is copper?

 

Have any of you gotten the tranny and diff fluid changed at a shop?

If so how much?


I understand that it's simple and you can do it yourself.
But just wondering how much it would cost.

Don't really have the proper tools to it myself.

 

i was quoted $80 for a diff. oil changeat the honda dealership.

[1st time yourself - diff]
$25 for a good torque wrench
$12 for socket and wrench (see DIY thread in "under the hood")
$10 for mobil 1 75w90
$3 rubber tubing for filling diff back up
$0 jack in the trunk (though i used a hydraulic one + jack stand that was lying around)

[subsequent diff oil changes]
$10 for oil

edit: get a box of rubber gloves too...you shouldn't need anything more.

not sure about transmission fluid change at the dealership...but for DIY:

[trans fluid change]
$0 for torque wrench you already bought
$0 jack (though you should get a jack stand)
$3 17mm socket
$23 for GM synchromesh: FM (not sure what the other types cost)
$0 rubber tubing you already bought

and finally...

knowing your trans/diff wont fail due to incompetence at the dealership: priceless.

 

Holy Old Thread. to the person who used the search funcion...

 

just changed both my tranny and diff fluid at 13k on my own, the quote from dealer was $180 for tranny, not sure about diff but I'm assuming won't be cheaper. So saved $300 by changing on my own.

I would change my tranny and diff every 15k miles

 

The board was only a couple months old when this thread started. And I'm still here 4 differential fluid changes later .
