I test drove 4 used ones before I bought my new one.(price was too high on them)
I could have drove a new one but I wanted to see how they ran after they were broke in.(also would have felt guilty v-tecing a new one during break in period.)

Hi,

My first drive in a S, was as passenger with the chef machanic. A week later I was back, and requested a test drive before putting down an order. Then the mechanic was in the passenger seat

I test drove one but based my decision to buy one on the dozens of magazine articles I'd read since its introduction. I value the opinions of professional testers.

I test drove two used ones and one new one off the showroom floor.

There is no way that I am going to buy any car before I drive it! BTW, every dealer that I went to let me drive a car, no problem. This was a year ago, when I was shopping around.

I was fortunate enough to get a test drive and it was on a nice so cal summer day. I basically fell in love with the car after driving it and decided that it was the car for me. I almost bought a CL-S 6 speed instead. The S2000 has such a fun/cool factor that it won hands down. I can't stop smiling since I got it

This isn't like buying a $35 shirt. I frankly don't care how much praise a car gets, if I'm going to spend $35,000 out-the-door on a car, you can bet your ass I'm going to test drive it. In fact, I test drove it three times before commiting.

Around February of 2000 I got to sit in one at an exotic car dealer that had a brand new red S2000 (trailered from the Honda lot to theirs with 9 miles on the odometer) for $49,999. Got to put the top down and start the engine.

A couple of months later a Chevy dealer had a used silver S2000 with 620 miles on their lot. They were only asking $42,999. I got to test drive that one, in the rain. Oh yeah, the shift knob had been stolen; it was a little painful gripping the threads to shift, but well worth it.

In June of 2000 I wound up buying a new red S2000 from a Honda dealer that had ordered it for someone who wound up losing a bundle on the stock market and couldn't take it. I didn't drive that one until after it was mine.

Test drove, but not from a dealer, from another owner.

When I first looked at a S2K, the dealer offered a test drive "if I was serious." I said "find us a blue one, and I'll be serious." Their white/red had about 40 miles on it, so they had let a few people drive it. Then I found s2ki.com and several comparison articles by car magazines on the Internet. I found a dealer with a blue one inbound, and would have put money down for it without a test drive ... but they had a '01 Silverstone/black with about 12K for sale (near new price!). So ... I would've bought it without a test drive, but I got one anyway. How do I vote?

QPhox4 you've helped me to realize that setting up a poll isn't quite as simple as it looks!

To clarify my experience, I was encouraged (almost forced) to drive mine the day I took delivery, more of a formality than anything else. When I ordered mine, 5 months before then, I was told I'd be able to test drive my car once it arrived, but not any others before then. So basically the dealership was allowing test drives only on the cars people had actually put down deposits on, because they had no other S's in stock. They were selling every one the minute it came in, of course this was back in 2000 when they were really flying out the doors and dealers were over-charging for them. One of the conditions of my buying from this dealership was that I would only pay sticker, and they treated me honestly. But still, because I had sat in many used ones, I would have taken one without driving it first, such was my zeal.
