Did my parking brake freeze??
I washed and detailed my S2k 9 days ago and it sat in the garage (rusty rotors and all) without moving Yeah, I know but it was a bad week for cars at my house.
When I went to back out this am, I released the parking brake and engaged reverse and the car would not go. Finally I heard two cracking noises and it went. Later I pushed it back in the garage by hand without power and I heard clicking noises out of the rear. They seem to have gone away now.
Did I do anything bad to the car or was the parking brake just "frozen". I have never had that happen before with any car.

Most of us have had a similar experience. The pads were stuck to the rotors due to rust. After washing the car, don't put the parking brake on. I don't think it damages anything but it does make a terrible noise.
You can block the wheels if you are afraid it will roll after washing. The other alternative is to drive it for a bit and let the brakes dry out completely.

Hard to imagine sub-freezing temps here in NM in June, but you're considerably farther North than I. What is your outside temp? It is possible, if it's really cold, for your brakes to freeze (know from experience having spent 2 winters in Minot, ND), but in June? We never used our parking brakes during the winter (auto tranny, though). How about some of you guys on the northern tier, what experience do you have. Is it still that cold?

I believe he was using the term frozen in a literal sense -- the pads were stuck (frozen) to the rotor -- and it had nothing to do with the outside tempeature.

Thanks for the responses. I did mean stuck rather than frozen. But hey it is MN
I should have driven it a bit to wear the rust off the pads. My bad. I was just worried I might have snapped something when I heard those little clicking noises...
